- The Pontiac Firebird was introduced on February 23rd, 1967. It was designed as a pony car to compete with the exciting new Ford Mustang. Pontiac debuted the Firebird just five months after the Chevrolet division unveiled the platform-sharing Camaro.
- The name “Firebird” was also previously used by GM for a series of concept cars in the 1950’s.
