1968 Lincoln Mark III
- The Mark III was created when Lee Iacocca, President of Ford, told Gene Bordinat, director of design, to "put a Rolls Royce on a Thunderbird" in September of 1965.
- It was a personal luxury car and was sold from 1969 to 1971. It was designed to compete with the Cadillac Eldorado and outsold it in the very first year.
- The Mark III transformed the Lincoln Mercury division from losing money on luxury cars to a profit center. It produced almost one billion dollars in profit during the period.
- This particular Mark III was produced in April of 1968 as an early 1969 model. These early Marks do not have headrests, hideaway wipers or Cartier clocks. They do have decorative stitches above the rear armrest.
- Options on this car include: Cruise control and power door locks. All Mark IIIs featured a flow thru ventilation system.
- This example is all original and has been driven only 37,000 miles.
- The engine is 460 cubic inches and produces 365 horsepower.
- The weight is 4,866 pounds and rides on a 117 inch wheelbase.
- This car is one of 7000 built in 1968.
- Price when new: $6.741.
