1940 FORD MODEL 01A DELUXE STATION WAGON
- The 1940 Fords featured extremely handsome styling by Eugene Gregorie.
- All models were fitted with sealed beam headlights and steering column shift lever.
- Deluxe models had chrome headlight trim rings with parking lights cast into the the upper part of the light.
- The wagons were built in Iron Mountain, MI. The plant was located in a forrest owned by Henry Ford for the use of the trees to build the woodie wagons.
- The wooden bodies were framed in Birds eye maple. This wood was chosen because of its beautiful color and the unique bird's eye designs in the wood.
- The "Woodies" gained popularity in the 1950s and 1960s as the California surfing crowd's favorite mode of transportation. The surf boards could easily fit on the top of the car and they were inexpensive to purchase and operate.
- Both rear seats can be removed to allow for more cargo.
- 8730 were produced in 1940.
- The wagon was the most expensive model offered by Ford.
- This car was purchased for the collection in January of 1964 from "Roaring 20 Autos" in Toms River New Jersey and driven home to Tucker, Ga.
- The engine is a 221 cubic inch90 degree flathead V-8 and produces 85 horsepower.
